A high school mariachi that plays all over Arizona

At Maryvale High School in west Phoenix, students can study mariachi. The school’s group, Mariachi Las Panteras de Oro, performs around the state —for the American Heart Association, the Arizona Senate and former Gov. Doug Ducey— and gets paid for its performances, according to KJZZ, Phoenix’s public radio station.

Its director, Mike Dominguez, says the Mexican American population in that area is very strong, and that the group helps students connect with their roots.

People looking for music in Phoenix often mean the whole area. That’s why groups from Mesa, Glendale, Tempe and Pinal County are listed below too.
